Medical Sciences
By 1968, the University had recognized the need for a new building for its medical programs and had drafted up plans for a new Medical Sciences Building. The $8,308,700, 60,000 square foot facility was to provide facilities "for the first year of a new medical program for 100 entering students (M.D.) candidates", which would consist of "one year of concentrated instruction in the basic sciences at the Urbana-Champaign campus, with the remaining three years to be offered in clinical centers located in one or more of the regions specified in the Report on Education in the Health Fields", drafted by the Board of Higher Education on June 4, 1968. In addition to the new M.D. program, the building was to support graduate-level studies in "three basic biological sciences (physiology, microbiology, and biological chemistry)". [1]
The Medical Sciences building was completed around 1974-1975. [2] [3]
