Water Resources Building / Computing Applications Building
The Water Resources Building, located at the corner of Sixth Street and Springfield Avenue in Champaign, was dedicated in the Union Ballroom on Tuesday, October 2, 1951 at 6:30PM. The new facilities were a welcome new home for the Water Survey, which had resided in the basement of Noyes Laboratory since 1902. The building underwent a single renovation in 1965 before the Survey eventually moved out in 1984 for their new center on Griffith Drive.
Today, the building is known as the Computing Applications Building and is occupied by the National Center for Supercomputing Applications. However, in mid-2005, NCSA's new building will open, and the building will become the home of a third campus unit.
