Geological Survey Lab / Nuclear Radiation Laboratory

Running alongside the Ceramics Kiln House and immediately to its south [1] was the original Geological Survey Lab, built in 1931 for a cost of $95,000. [2] By the 1960's it was theMailing Center [3] before eventually becoming the Nuclear Radiation Laboratory. [4]

By the late 1940, [5] the new Geological Survey Research Laboratory was located beside Abbott Power Plant. [6]

[4] Email from Robert T. Chapel to hasselbe@students.uiuc.edu - April 23, 2001, gives 1957, and it is unclear whether this date is meaningful, perhaps it refers to a new building built in the same location, or the transfer date, etc.
[5] Campus Map shows 4th Street Residence Halls as under construction, which places it around 1940
