Burnsides Research Laboratory
The ground breaking of the new Burnsides Research Laboratory was held on November 28, 1961, [1] with its dedication on June 16, 1963. The inaugural use of the building was to play host to the Lipid Symposium, which ran from June 16-18. The two-story building, designed by Glenn G. Frazier and Associates, is constructed of brick and reinforced concrete with the first two floors dedicated purely to research exploits. The basement houses a cold room, centrifuge, and 4 small-animal rooms. [2]
The building is named after Ethel Burnsides, a major benefactor [3] who helped make the $900,000 [4] building a reality. She donated $250,000, while the rest was provided through a National Institute of Health grant. [5]
