Chemical and Life Sciences Laboratory

The Chemical and Life Sciences Laboratory was constructed in two phases. The first place, known as "Chemical and Life Sciences Laboratory A", was built as a five-story addition to the East Chemistry Building. Completed in September 1965, the building cost $5,050,000 in "state funds and matching grants". Among its innovative features were "movable metal partitions for flexibility in use". [1]

Groundbreaking for the second phase of the Chemical and Life Sciences Laboratory occurred on March 4, 1993. The new laboratory was designed by Perkins & Will, with Gilbane Building Company handling the general contracting on the project. [2]
