Colonel Wolfe School
Colonel Wolfe School, built in 1905, [1] is named after Civil War soldier Colonel John Simms [2] Wolfe. [3] Originally owned by the City of Champaign, the school was later purchased by the University [4] and was renovated in 1966. [5] [6] The grave Colonel Wolfe and his wife, Celestia Young, resides in Mt. Hope Cemetery in Urbana. His grave bears the Latin phrase "In Hoc Signo Vinces", [7] meaning, "In this Sign, Conquer", a reference to Constantine's vision the evening before the Battle of Milvian Bridge in 310. [8] Above the words are depicted a cross through a crown. [9]
