New Illini Media Company Building

Groundbreaking for the new Illini Media Company Building occurred at 1:30PM on October 17, 2004. The new four-story building will be located at 512 East Green Street in a former city parking lot, and is expected to be completed by Spring 2006.

The first floor will house the broadcast media group, allowing passersby to "see the DJs in action as well as bands playing in house". WPGU-FM, which originally resided in the basement of Weston Hall and moved to 24 East Green in 1995, will be the primary residents of the first floor. The Daily Illini, Buzz, Technograph, and Illio, which were all originally in Illini Hall before moving to 57 East Green in 1988, will take over the third floor, with the second floor housing the advertising department. The fourth floor is being left empty for future development and expansion.
