Materials Testing Laboratory / Arthur Newell Talbot Laboratory / Bioacoustics Laboratory

The cornerstone of the Materials Testing Laboratory was laid at 4PM on Thursday, October 25, 1928. [1] Originally built for $437,000, it featured 81,400 square feet of space. [2] Professor Melvin L. Enger announced the list of articles that were placed in the cornerstone [3] before it was laid in place by its architect, [4] Professor James M. White. [5] The building was finally dedicated on May, 2, 1930 and was rededicated on Thursday, April 21, 1938, in honor of Arthur Newell Talbot. [6] By 1935 it housed a testing machine capable of exerting 3,000,000 pounds of pressure. [7]

By 1973 the eastern section of the building was also known as the Bioacoustics Laboratory. [8]
