Institute of Genomic Biology / Post Genomics Institute

Known alternatively as the Institute of Genomic Biology or the Post Genomics Institute, the new $73.5M genomics center was launched on June 5, 2003. The purpose of the facility is to facilitate "multidisciplinary collaboration among university scientists and outside partners and to promote technology transfer of new advances in genomic biology". President Stukel noted that building had been enabled by "one hundred thirty-five years of leadership in agriculture, chemistry and life sciences and a half century of groundbreaking work in computing" and that the University's "unique intercession of biotechnology and computing talent" would be empowered by the 107,000 square foot facility. Designed by CUH2A, Inc. and landscaped by Hitchcock Design Group, [2] the building's profile was modified so as to not cast shade on the nearby Historical Landmark, the Morrow Plots. [3]
