sary; under direction of physicists responsible for rebuilding and making modifications as need requiies; build or supervise the building of such auxiliary research apparatus as cloud chambers and analyzer magnets; assist in solving major design problems relating to nuclear physics. QUALIFICATIONS: University graduation with degree in engineering, preferably in physics or electrical engineering, or an equivalent amount of practical experience; alertness; some degree of manual skills; working knowledge of electronics; good judgement; good physical condition; minimum age twenty-two. Electronics Engineer DEFINITION: Under administrative supervision, to plan, develop, and test new types of electronic circuits of advanced design for use in nuclear physics or other specialized fields. D U T I E S BY EXAMPLE: T O suggest and develop new or improved circuit designs required in instrumentation for research; be in charge of the electronics shop; supervise circuit development and construction work by electronics technicians; instruct electronics technicians in circuit design and use of specialized electronic instruments; consult with senior staff on design of equipment for use in their research problems; be responsible for maintenance and repair by the electronics shop of electronic circuits and equipment used in research. QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree in physics or electrical engineering; master's degree preferred; extensive experience in actual design and construction of electronic equipment such as radio, radar, and scientific electronic equipment; thorough understanding of, and competence in the use of, electronic instruments; good physical condition; dependability; good judgment; minimum age twenty-five. Assistant Instrument and Efficiency Engineer DEFINITION: Under the direct supervision of t h e Instrument and Efficiency Engineer, to perform duties related to the efficient operation of power plant equipment. D U T I E S BY EXAMPLE: T O collect and tabulate daily power plant reports; to take and compile meter readings of steam, gas, and electrical consumption of buildings on the Urbana campus; to compute and record the steam, gas, and electrical consumption of such buildings; to prepare graphs and charts of operating data; assist the Instrument and Efficiency Engineer in efficiency tests for power plant equipment such as boilers, turbines, pumps, and dust collector system; do coal sampling, preparation, and tests; make coal storage temperature tests and records; perform related duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS: High school graduation and two years of experience on tests and efficiency work in a power plant having operating steam pressure of 200 pounds per square inch or higher; specialized education in combustion engineering may be substituted for one year of experience on tests and efficiency work; graduation from a recognized college or university in mechanical engineering desirable; general knowledge of power plant instruments and of methods and procedures to make combustion and efficiency calculations; good health; minimum age twenty-one. Maid Forelady DEFINITION: Under direction, to supervise a group of custodial employees and to perform domestic duties. D U T I E S BY EXAMPLE: T O assign specific custodial duties; check time cards and attendance records of employees; inspect work; train employees in proper methods and procedures in cleaning; assist in emergency where help is needed for cleaning; lock and unlock doors and buildings as directed; assist in supervision of linen and sewing ladies as directed; supervise preparation for special events; perform related domestic duties. QUALIFICATIONS: High school graduation preferred; at least three years of janitorial experience; experience in a custodial supervisory capacity preferred; good physical condition; dependability; tact; integrity; ability to handle women and to instruct them as directed; minimum age twenty-five. Bookbindery Foreman DEFINITION: Under direction of Superintendent of Print Shop, to supervise and be immediately responsible for the work of skilled tradesmen in the Print Shop bindery.
