AWARD OF CONTRACT FOR ERECTION OF STEEL FOR ABBOTT POWER PLANT ADDITION (13) Bids have been received for the erection of steel for the Abbott Power Plant addition from the Kuhne-Simmons Company, Inc., in the amount of $11,250 and from the American Boiler and Tank Company in the amount of $11,388. Both firms have contracts for other phases of work on this project. As these are the only bids that Sargent and Lundy, engineers for the project, have been able to obtain, they recommend, the Director of the Physical Plant and the Comptroller concurring, that the contract for the erection of this miscellaneous steel work be awarded to the Kuhne-Simmons Company, Inc., on the basis of their proposal of $11,250. Funds are available in the State appropriation for enlargement of Power Plant by constructing an addition thereto. I concur and request that the Comptroller and Secretary of the Board be authorized to execute an addition of $11,250 to the present contract with Kuhne-Simmons Company, Inc., to provide for the erection of steel. ADDITION TO CONSTRUCTION CONTRACT FOR THE ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING BUILDING (14) T h e Director of the Physical Plant and the Comptroller recommend an addition to the contract with the John Felmley Company in the amount of $1,362.44 covering the cost of changing asphalt tile in the Machine Laboratory in the new Electrical Engineering Building to a grease-proof type. The original contract with the John Felmley Company was approved by the Board on January 25, 1947 (Minutes, page 229). This change is requested by the Electrical Engineering Department, as the oil to be used in the Machine Shop is detrimental to the ordinary type of asphalt tile. T h e extra cost of the grease-proof type of floor covering will soon be recovered through reduced maintenance costs. Funds are available in the State appropriation for the construction of a new Electrical Engineering Building for this addition. I concur and request authorization of the Comptroller and the Secretary of the Board to execute an addition of $1,362.44 to the present contract with John Felmley Company to provide for changing the tile flooring.
