the extension of the electrical distribution system at the Chicago Professional Colleges. Under this plan the University secured a reduction in the rates based on consumption of power delivered to all points on the Chicago campus. However, with the addition of each new station in the system, the University is required to enter into an "excess facilities agreement" with the Commonwealth Edison Company for the installation of the necessary distribution lines to deliver power to the new point. The Director of the Physical Plant and the Comptroller recommend an additional payment of $8,450 under this plan to the Commonwealth Edison Company for extension of distribution lines to provide electrical service for the student residence hall. Funds are available for this contract in the budget for the construction of this building. I concur and recommend that the Comptroller and the Secretary of the Board be authorized to execute the necessary documents. O n motion of M r s . W a t k i n s , this contract w a s authorized.

CONTRACT FOR ALTERATIONS IN VENTILATING SYSTEM IN THE DEPARTMENT O F PHYSICAL MEDICINE QUARTERS

(17) The Director of the Physical Plant and the Comptroller recommend award of a contract for $24,847 to the Narowetz Heating and Ventilating Company, Chicago, the lowest bidder, for changes in the ventilating system in the quarters of the Department of Physical Medicine. The work will consist of air conditioning the Hydrotherapy Pool Area, the Electromyographic Room, and additional ventilation for the receptionist's office, departmental waiting room, student demonstration and classroom, examining room, and staff conference rooms. An appropriation for this and other remodeling work for the Department of Physical Medicine is being recommended separately. I recommend that this contract be authorized, subject to the appropriation of funds. O n motion of M r . Nickell, this contract was authorized.

IMPROVEMENTS IN PRESIDENT'S HOUSE KITCHEN

(18) Bids have been received for the furnishing and installation of improvements in the kitchen at the President's House to provide additional facilities as follows: Darrell E. Waechter, Pekin $3 736 00 Swain and Myers, Inc., Decatur 2 788 50 Harry F. Munds, Urbana 2 360 00 The bid of Mr. Waechter is based on steel construction, the other two on wood, all custom built. Other general, electrical, and mechanical work incidental to these improvements is estimated at $2,400, or a total estimated cost of the project of $5,000. The Director of the Physical Plant and the Comptroller recommend the award of a contract for $2,360 to Harry F. Munds. I recommend an appropriation of $5,000 be made from the General Reserve Fund, and request that the Comptroller and the Secretary of the Board be authorized to execute this contract. O n motion of M r s . Holt, this contract w a s authorized and an a p propriation of $5,000 was made from the General Reserve F u n d by the following vote: Aye, M r . Fornof, M r . Grange, M r . ENGINEERING SERVICES IN DESIGNING ADDITION T O TALBOT LABORATORY

(19) The University has a contract with E. C. Manthei, Champaign, for engineering services in designing and preparing specifications for electrical, plumbing, heating, and ventilating installations on minor projects. The fee is 6 per cent of the bids on the mechanical work for these trades on any project.
