CONTRACTS FOR CONSTRUCTION O F AGRICULTURAL ENGINEERING ANNEX

(12) The Director of the Physical Plant and the Comptroller recommend award of contracts as follows for the construction of an annex to the Agricultural Engineering Building, subject to the receipt of authority to begin construction from the National Production Authority: General work — C. A. Petry and Sons, Champaign $132 400 Electrical work — Brunkow Electric Company, Champaign 18 566 Plumbing, heating, ventilating, and temperature control work — Reliable Plumbing and Heating Company, Champaign 42 500 These are the lowest bidders. The total budget for this project is $225,000. Funds are available in the state appropriations for 1949-1951 for the construction of agricultural buildings, the unexpended balances in which have been reappropriated for 1951-1953. I concur and recommend that the Comptroller and the Secretary of the Board be authorized to execute these contracts.

On motion of Mrs. Watkins, these contracts were authorized by the following vote: Aye, Mr. Fornof, Mr. Grange, Mr. Hickman, Mrs. Holt, Mr. Johnston, Mr. Livingston, Mr. Megran, Mr. Nickell, Mrs. Watkins; no, none; absent, Mr. Herrick, Mr. Stevenson.

CONTRACT FOR ARCHITECTURAL SERVICES FOR H O M E ECONOMICS BUILDING

(13) The appropriations made to the University for 1951-1953 for capital improvements include $43,000 (plus an allowance of $2,000 for contingencies) for architectural studies of a proposed new home economics building. The Dean of the College of Fine and Applied Arts, the Head of the Department of Architecture, the University Architect, and the Chairman of the Building Program Committee recommend employment of Naess and Murphy, Chicago, as architects for this building on the basis of a fee of 6 per cent of the construction cost for complete architectural services. For the present this firm would be employed to prepare complete preliminary studies only. It proposes to furnish such services at not to exceed 1.2 per cent of the estimated construction cost. No extra charge will be made for any time of the principals. I recommend that, a contract for the professional services of Naess and Murphy on this basis be authorized.

On motion of Mrs. Watkins, this contract was authorized.

C O N T R A C T FOR CONSTRUCTION OF PARKING LOT (14) The Director of the Physical Plant and the Comptroller recommend award of contract for $18,260 to the Champaign Asphalt Company, Champaign, the lowest bidder, for the construction of a parking area with concrete curbs and asphalt surfacing at 1108 West Green Street, Urbana, to be used by the occupants of the Student and Staff Apartment Buildings at Green Street and Goodwin Avenue. Funds are available in the budget for the construction of the Student and Staff Apartment Buildings. I concur and recommend that the Comptroller and the Secretary of the Board be authorized to execute this contract.

On motion of Mr. Grange, this contract was authorized.

(15) In the past, the Board of Trustees has awarded contracts on a cost-plus basis for minor alterations and remodeling at Urbana-Champaign. These contracts have been awarded on a year-to-year basis. Work under these contracts is initiated
