D U T I E S BY EXAMPLE: T O check requisitions and purchase orders; be responsible for catalog file; assist in securing and reviewing of quotations; assist in maintaining commodity lists, price lists, and discount sheets; contact departments regarding purchasing problems and needs; perform related duties concerning the selection of materials and their purchase as assigned; process invoice vouchers for payment, verifying that prices are in agreement with terms of purchase; apply and/or secure proper credit for any material returned to the vendor; assist in the investigation and clarification of accounts with vendors. QUALIFICATIONS: High school graduation; two years of college work, with training in business desirable; some experience in purchasing work desirable; full-time experience in purchasing work may be substituted year for year for college training; good judgment; integrity; minimum age twenty-two. Bookbindery Worker DEFINITION: Under supervision of a foreman, to perform skilled duties involved in the Print Shop bindery. DUTIES BY EXAMPLE: T O "set u p " and operate folding machines; cut paper properly without waste; trim books; compress books; perform manual duties such as check binding, covering, counting, wrapping, packing, inserting, folding and collating books; perform related duties as directed. QUALIFICATIONS: High school graduation; vocational training desirable; experience sufficient to qualify as a journeyman with minimum of four years of actual work at the trade; proficiency in the use of tools and equipment; good physical condition; minimum age twenty-one. Chief Clerk DEFINITION: Under administrative supervision, to assist in administrative responsibilities, as well as in clerical operations, in connection with an administrative or academic unit, exercising original judgment, discrimination, and independent thought. D U T I E S BY EXAMPLE: T O be responsible for the operation of an office and supervision of office staff; attend departmental staff meetings; develop and initiate office forms and procedures; suggest ways of improving departmental procedures; assist superior in making decisions on personnel problems; perform minor research or statistical work where required; collect data and prepare final reports, as well as rough drafts; answer correspondence and sign superior's name to same, as well as on forms, requisitions, vouchers, and similar papers; do considerable independent work in budget preparation and in keeping budget accounts; give out authoritative information; relieve immediate superior in handling many personal contacts; counsel and assist students; schedule and arrange appointments and conferences for superior; be responsible for the safety, repair, maintenance, and inventory of departmental equipment, and for the safety and security of departmental records, cash, and valuable documents; perform related duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS: University or college graduation required, unless offset by experience of special value and significance; three years administrative office experience, preferably in a university or college; typing ability desirable; minimum age twenty-three. Copyholder DEFINITION: Under direct supervision of Senior Proofreader, to perform routine copyholding duties. D U T I E S BY EXAMPLE: To arrange copy; read copy to proofreader; call out all punctuation marks; call attention to discrepancies in printed copy and original manuscript; follow through original copy word for word; assist in revising and checking proof; perform routine duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS: High school graduation; college training desirable; thorough knowledge of grammar, spelling, and punctuation; clear, well-modulated voice; ability to follow instructions; minimum age eighteen. Photo-Offset Foreman DEFINITION: Under direction of Superintendent of Print Shop, to supervise and be immediately responsible for skilled tradesmen engaged in offset printing. DUTIES BY EXAMPLE: T O perform, and to direct others in performing, the various operations of offset printing; be responsible for the care of machines and for work
