Junior Illustrator DEFINITION: Under immediate supervision, to make tracings and free-hand drawings for simple duplicating processes, such as mimeographing and multilithing. D U T I E S BY EXAMPLE: T O make free-hand drawings and tracings of charts, graphs, maps, and illustrations on mimeograph stencils and multilith masters for use in classroom manuals, programs, newsletters, and bulletins; do some designing and lettering of signs and posters. QUALIFICATIONS: High school graduation; ability a n d / o r training in a r t ; ability to do lettering; accuracy; minimum age sixteen. Electrician Laborer DEFINITION: Under supervision, to clean lighting fixtures and to replace light bulbs and fixture glassware. D U T I E S BY EXAMPLE: T O wash fixture glassware and reflectors; replace broken or damaged glassware; replace lamps and fluorescent lamp starters; assist electricians in moving equipment, in cleaning areas, and in miscellaneous duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS: Grade school graduation; good physical condition; ability to climb and work from ladders; initiative and ability to work without direct supervision; presentable appearance; tact; courtesy; good judgment; minimum age eighteen. Utility Laborer (Chicago) DEFINITION: Under direction of an Operating Engineer, to perform physical labor in connection with the operation, maintenance, and repair of heating plants and mechanical equipment in buildings. D U T I E S BY EXAMPLE: T O perform unskilled labor incidental to, and necessary for, the operation of mechanical equipment, including the cleaning of equipment and equipment areas, such as wiping off equipment, sweeping and mopping of floors, and cleaning of pipes; operate ash and coal handling equipment, move coal, ashes, and supplies; assist in the maintenance of mechanical equipment, such as the cleaning of boilers and condensers; assist in the repair of boilers and mechanical equipment, such as pumps, compressors, fans, etc.; perform related duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS: High school graduation or equivalent; good physical condition; working knowledge of tools and equipment; sufficient mechanical aptitude to assist in repairing equipment; dependability; willingness to perform duties as directed; minimum age eighteen. Model Maker DEFINITION: Under general direction, to do precision work requiring a high degree of mechanical, construction, and electrical skill in the development of scientific equipment, and to supervise employees of lower rank. D U T I E S BY EXAMPLE: Make complete full-scale working models of electrical devices for purposes of research; develop, design, and build experimental equipment requiring the use of precision instruments; perform skilled mechanical work of fine tolerances; repair, adjust, and regulate scientific instruments; calibrate instruments to coincide with standards; construct from blueprints and written specifications; skillfully use all machinists' hand tools, including those of micro-measurement; perform lathe work with precision tolerances; shape metal parts to precision dimensions; perform work in the constructional phases of two digital computing, or other related machines, electronic chassis lay-out, and other related functions; exercise technical supervision of laboratory employees, electronic technicians, and other skilled personnel; perform related specialized skills as required. QUALIFICATIONS: High school graduation; additional technical training desirable; extensive experience in specialized use of machine and instrument tools requiring precision dimensions; specialized knowledge of constructional phases of models; at least five years' experience in the design and construction of precision instruments; complete knowledge of shop mathematics, of all machinists' tools, including calipers, micrometers, and gauges; supervisory and administrative ability; resourcefulness; good judgment; minimum age twenty-five. Creamery Manager DEFINITION: Under administrative direction, to be responsible for t h e efficient management of creamery operations.
