D U T I E S BY EXAMPLE: Solve problems in higher mathematics incidental t o investigative development and research work in scientific fields, such as engineering, physics, and astronomy; determine mathematical principles involved and most efficient methodology for solution of problems; operate calculating machines in t h e solution of problems. QUALIFICATIONS: University graduation, with master's degree desirable in engineering or mathematics; skill in the operation of various types of calculating machines; evidence of ability t o plan work for making numerical computations and evaluations; experience in progressive, responsible mathematical research and techniques; minimum age twenty-five. Consultant for Women's Housing DEFINITION: Under direction of Supervisor of Off-Campus Housing, to assist in matters relating to women's housing. D U T I E S BY EXAMPLE: To interview callers seeking general housing information; act as consultant to house directors and sorority officers concerning housing problems such as quotas, standards, and remodeling; confer with Dean of Women regarding physical aspects of housing; review complaints concerning food service and housing standards in privately operated units and recommend solutions; assist in adjusting controversial matters which pertain to physical aspects of housing in privately operated units; supervise the work of a housing visitor; supervise inspection program in privately-owned units accommodating women; compile and distribute information concerning housing for women; assist in preparation of Housing Handbook; supervise preparation of women's housing directory and women's housing statistics; distribute and collect applications for housing in University-owned facilities for single women; participate in College D a y programs as requested; attend group meetings of house directors and intersorority council; perform related duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS: University graduation, preferably with some work in sociology, personnel administration, or related subjects; working knowledge of interior decoration and furniture values desirable; ability to carry on correspondence effectively; aptitude for getting along with people and for adjusting controversial matters; minimum age twenty-five. Assistant Director of Statistical Service Unit DEFINITION: Under Director of the Unit, to be responsible for the operations of a large tabulating division, for establishing and maintaining involved mechanical tabulation procedures, and for the efficient and economical application of a wide variety of tabulating machine equipment. D U T I E S BY EXAMPLE: T O direct the activities of a complex machine tabulating unit; plan work methods and procedures, subject to departmental policies established by the Director; revise procedures, work methods, and forms for the purpose of improving the efficiency of operation and services of the Unit; suggest to, and consult with, higher administrative officers on proposed changes of procedure; make decisions relative to operation of the Unit within t h e established procedures; plan, assign, and coordinate the work of the Unit; review and study finished reports for accuracy and correct composition; assist other staff members in the solution of difficult problems; perform related duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS: University graduation with major, or special training, in fields of accounting a n d / o r engineering; five years of experience with I B M punch card accounting equipment, including experience on latest model units; preferably three years of this total experience should have been spent in working with a college or university tabulating unit; experience in management and supervisory work highly desirable; ability to wire and operate all types of I B M equipment; ability to conduct classes in operation of I B M equipment; working knowledge of application of all types of I B M equipment; ability to design cards, code forms, and set up procedures; working knowledge of methods, plans, and practices of modern college and university records and statistics; ability to plan and coordinate t h e work of other tabulating unit employees; ability to deal harmoniously with the faculty and staff; minimum age twenty-eight.
