D U T I E S BY EXAMPLE: To be responsible for work of employees of lower rank in the tool room; be responsible for custody, issuance, replacement, maintenance, and repair of tools and equipment and maintenance of tool room records as outlined in the Tool Control Manual; assist machinists in shop work as required; be responsible for removal from service of all unsafe, broken, or otherwise defective tools and equipment; perform related duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS: High school graduation preferred; good physical condition; agility; mechanical aptitude; manual dexterity; ability to maintain legible records; pleasant business-like personality conducive to dealing harmoniously with fellow employees; initiative; resourcefulness; minimum age twenty-two. Clerk III DEFINITION: Under general supervision, to be responsible for varied and complex clerical work, involving the exercise of independent judgment a n d / o r the supervision of a clerical staff of lower rank. D U T I E S BY EXAMPLE: To supervise and direct the work of a small or moderatesized clerical unit; compile data for reports; code, classify, file, and direct filing of all materials in a large and complex filing system; give out information as approved by superior; answer routine inquiries; assist in the preparation and maintenance of records, including tabulation and posting of data in various record books; control admission of patients' visitors; operate office machines as required and instruct others in the operation of such machines; prepare materials for mailing; handle cash and other valuables; keep expenditure and income accounts which may include auditing, vouchering, and scheduling invoices, payrolls, and expense accounts; perform related duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS: High school graduation; business training preferred; a t least one year of responsible clerical experience, preferably in a college or university; typing ability desirable; minimum age twenty. Clerk II DEFINITION: Under direct supervision, but with some independence, to perform clerical duties requiring knowledge of office procedures. D U T I E S BY EXAMPLE: To give out information concerning department as approved by superiors; do indexing and filing involving cross indexing and transfer; register patients; keep records; be responsible for petty cash; make transcripts; fill supply orders; do inventory work; compile data and minor statistics; operate office machines as required; prepare tabulations; balance ledgers; check payrolls; do messenger work; check periodicals and bulletins; assist in the making of charts and graphs; check credits and admissions; answer routine inquiries; perform related duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS: High school graduation; business training desirable; one year of clerical experience preferable; minimum age eighteen. Clerk I DEFINITION: Under close supervision, to perform routine tasks requiring a knowledge of clerical work. D U T I E S BY EXAMPLE: T O open, seal, and mail correspondence; file materials as directed; paste labels; wrap packages; answer telephones; perform messenger service; do sorting, checking, calculations, and posting; answer routine inquiries; record grades and other data; operate duplicating machines and office machines as required; assemble duplicated materials; perform related duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS: High school graduation; minimum age sixteen. Payroll Clerk I DEFINITION: Under supervision, to assist in maintaining payroll records and in preparing University payrolls. D U T I E S BY EXAMPLE: Assist in the preparation and maintenance of payroll records; post earnings records; maintain files for payroll authorizations, earnings records, time cards, and other related data. QUALIFICATIONS: High school graduation; typing ability; accuracy and aptitude in handling figures; thoroughness; minimum age sixteen.
