A P P O I N T M E N T S T O T H E FACULTY (2) T h e following new appointments to the faculty of the rank of Assistant Professor and above, and involving tenure, have been approved since the previous meeting of the Board of Trustees. 1. ROLAND J. ARTIGUES, Associate Professor, Division of Social Welfare Administration, beginning September I, 1951, at an annual salary of $6,000 ( B ) . 2. CHARLES K. BRIGHTBILL, Professor of Physical Education, beginning September 1, 1951, at an annual salary of $10,000 ( A ) . 3. R U T H ISABEL COOPER, Assistant Professor, Department of Home Economics, beginning September 1, 1951, at an annual salary of $4,500 ( D ) . 4. GEORGE G E E JACKSON, Assistant Professor, Department of Preventive Medicine, College of Medicine, beginning July I, 1951, at an annual salary of $6,500 ( D Y ) . 5. RICHARD C. WILCOCK, Assistant Professor, Institute of Labor and Industrial Relations, beginning June 15, 1951, at an annual salary of $4,900 ( D Y ) .

On motion of Mr. Herrick, these appointments were confirmed.

A P P O I N T M E N T O F D R . HARRY F . DOWL1NG A S P R O F E S S O R AND HEAD O F T H E D E P A R T M E N T O F MEDICINE (3) The Dean of the College of Medicine and the Vice-President in charge of the Chicago Professional Colleges recommend the appointment of Dr. H a r r y F. Dowling, now Professor and Head of the Department of Preventive Medicine, as Professor and Head of the Department of Medicine on indefinite tenure beginning September 1, 1951, at an annual salary of $15,000 ( A Y ) , to succeed Dr. Robert W. Keeton who will retire from active service at the end of the current academic year. I concur.

On motion of Mr. Nickell, this appointment was approved as recommended.

CANCELLATION O F LEAVE O F A B S E N C E G R A N T E D K. B . H E N D E R S O N (4) On November 24, 1950, the Board of Trustees granted Associate Professor K. B. Henderson of the College of Education leave of absence for a period of two months during the current academic year and the loan of his services to the Department of State, the time to be arranged. Due to the Korean situation the State Department has been unable to use Professor Henderson's services as originally planned, and to clear the record I am requesting that the leave previously granted be cancelled.
