APPROPRIATION A N D CONTRACT FOR CONSTRUCTION OF SIDEWALK ON S O U T H CAMPUS

(25) The Director of the Physical Plant and the Comptroller recommend the award of a contract for $1,810 to the Wascher Concrete and Insulation Company, Champaign, the lowest bidder, for the construction of a sidewalk on the South Campus crossing the quadrangle between the Library and the Morrow plots. An appropriation of $2,250 ($1,810 for the construction contract and $440 for engineering services and contingencies) is required. I recommend that this appropriation be made from the General Reserve Fund and that the Comptroller and the Secretary of the Board be authorized to execute this contract. On motion of Mr. Hickman, this contract was authorized and the appropriation was made, as recommended, by the following vote: Aye, Mr. Fornof, Mr. Herrick, Mr. Hickman, Mrs. Holt, Mr. Livingston, Mr. McLaughlin, Mrs. Watkins, Mr. Williamson; no, none; absent, Dr. Meyer, Mr. Nickell, Mr. Stevenson.

APPROPRIATION A N D CONTRACT FOR REMODELING O F QUARTERS IN T H E CHICAGO UNDERGRADUATE DIVISION

(26) The Committee on Nonrecurring Appropriations recommends that an assignment of $14,500 be made from the General Reserve Fund for remodeling of quarters at Navy Pier and for the purchase of equipment to provide additional facilities needed by the Department of Biological Sciences. A report of the Committee giving the details of the improvements requested and a breakdown of the costs is attached. Bids have been secured on the remodeling work. The Director of the Physical Plant and the Comptroller recommend award of a contract for $7,498.23 to James P. Sherlock, Chicago, the lowest bidder, for this work. The Director of Purchases and the Business Manager of the Chicago Departments recommend purchase of laboratory furniture and other equipment from the Inter Ocean Cabinet Company, Chicago, the lowest bidder, at a price of $5,626.10. I recommend that an appropriation of $14,500 be made from the General Reserve Fund, and that .the award of a remodeling contract and the purchase of the laboratory equipment be authorized. On motion of Mr. Livingston, the contract for remodeling and the purchase of laboratory equipment were authorized, as recommended, and an appropriation of $14,500 was made from the General Reserve Fund by the following vote: Aye, Mr. Fornof, Mr. Herrick, Mr. Hickman, Mrs. Holt, Mr. Livingston, Mr. McLaughlin, Mrs. Watkins, Mr. Williamson; no, none; absent, Dr. Meyer, Mr. Nickell, Mr. Stevenson.
