two risers from single to three phase; and installation of new circuit breaker type cutout cabinets. B-H Electric Company, Chicago 6 497 For alterations in electrical supply lines to the Research Laboratory and Library Unit of the Medical and Dental College Laboratories Building. The work will include installation of new three-phase, four-wire service feeder line of sufficient capacity to service general light and power loads; installation of new service and distribution panel; replacement of existing three-wire riser with four-wire riser; and replacement of six panels with three-phase four-wire circuit breaker type panels. These alterations are necessary to eliminate the existing overload. Both companies are the low bidders on these installations. I recommend that the Comptroller and the Secretary of the Board be authorized to execute these contracts when funds have been released by the Governor from the State appropriation for "Construction of Utility Distribution System and Remodeling of Existing Buildings" ("Permanent Improvements at Chicago").

On motion of Mrs. Watkins, authority was given as recommended.

CHANGES IN CONTRACTS FOR CONSTRUCTION OF RESEARCH AND EDUCATIONAL HOSPITALS ADDITION (10) The Director of the Physical Plant and the Comptroller recommend the following additions to contracts for the construction of the addition to the Research and Educational Hospitals. These changes are to provide for the relocation of the Manufacturing Pharmacy. Construction of the new addition will require wrecking of space now occupied by the Manufacturing Pharmacy. General work — Patrick W a r r e n Construction Company, Chicago $1 243 00 Plumbing — Economy Plumbing and Heating Company, Chicago 7 778 47 This work will be performed on a labor and materials basis not to exceed an estimated $6,321.39, plus fees of 15 per cent for overhead and 7 per cent for profit, total estimated cost $7,778.47; overhead, profit, and insurance will be adjusted on the basis of the final cost of labor and materials, Heating and ventilating — Bloomer Heating and Ventilating Co.,

Funds are available in the State appropriation for the construction of the addition to the Research and Educational Hospitals for these changes. I concur and recommend that the Comptroller and the Secretary of the Board be authorized to execute these change orders.

On motion of Mr. Herrick, authority was given as recommended.

ADDITION TO GENERAL CONTRACT FOR CONSTRUCTION OF STUDENT AND STAFF APARTMENTS (11) On February 16, 1950 (Minutes, page 997), the Board of Trustees approved an increase in the general contract for the construction of the original buildings of the Student and Staff Apartments to provide for replacement of tracks on all wardrobe sliding doors, which have been found unsatisfactory, with new tracks, rollers, and door guides of the overhead installation type. A similar change is recommended in the specifications for installations of wardrobe doors in the second six-story building now under construction. The Director of the Physical Plant and the Comptroller recommend an increase of $2,432 in the general work contract with Kuhne-Simmons Company, Inc., to provide for this change. Funds are available. I concur and recommend that the Comptroller be authorized to execute this addition to the contract.

COMPTROLLER'S REPORT OF CONTRACTS (12) The Comptroller's report of contracts and leases executed and adjustments made from January 11 to February 28, 1950 (see Appendix, page 1062).
