PURCHASE OF COAL FOR GALESBURG UNDERGRADUATE DIVISION (14) Bids have been requested on 15,000 tons of screenings ( i j 4 " x o " ) estimated as required during the period June 1, 1947, through May 1, 1948, for the plant at the Galesburg Undergraduate Division. Bids were requested from 35 concerns, known or thought to be interested in and possibly able to furnish this coal. The only bid received was from the Central Indiana Coal Company, Galesburg office, for coal from its Victoria, Illinois, mine at $3.00 a ton, f.o.b. mine, subject to price adjustments, freight rate 88£ a ton, estimated total of contract $45,000, estimated total cost of coal delivered $58,200. A contract is necessary in order to be assured of a continuing supply. The period involved covers parts of two biennial periods. Hence an order will be issued for the estimated 600 tons required before June 30, 1947, and an additional contract for the remainder required after July 1, 1947. The Business Manager of the Galesburg Undergraduate Division, the Purchasing Agent, the Director of the Physical Plant, and the Comptroller recommend approval of this contract. Under the state constitution the contract also must be submitted to the Governor for approval. I concur and request authority for the Comptroller and the Secretary of the Board to execute the contract when approved by the Governor. O n m o t i o n of M r .
