The Executive Committee considered the following matters presented by the President of the University.

APPROPRIATION TO UNIVERSITY PRESS ( i ) T h e Director of the University Press requests an appropriation of $500, or so much thereof as may be necessary, for the cost of printing and distributing the report of the Committee on Future University P r o g r a m s . I concur in this recommendation.

On motion of Mr. Davis, this appropriation was made, by the following vote: Aye, Mr. Livingston, Mr. Davis; absent, Dr. Meyer.

PURCHASES RECOMMENDED. (2) T h e Purchasing Agent has proposed and the Comptroller recommends the following purchases. Unless otherwise specified the purchase in each case is recommended on the basis of lowest bid, ceiling price, or because the item is noncompetitive. I concur in the recommendations. Two R.C.A. type 73B (professional model) recording machines, with one thread suction attachment, for the Radio Station, from the Radio Corporation of America, Chicago, at a cost of $2,447.50 f.o.b. factory. O n m o t i o n of M r . Davis, this p u r c h a s e w a s a u t h o r i z e d . PURCHASES AUTHORIZED (3) The following purchases were recommended by the Purchasing Agent and authorized by the Comptroller. Unless otherwise specified the purchases were made on the basis of lowest bids, ceiling prices, or because the items are noncompetitive. Emergency action was necessary to secure delivery in time to meet specific needs or because prices quoted were subject to immediate acceptance. 1. Thirty-three 36" x 24" x 78" steel wardrobe cabinets for student rooms in the Busey and Evans Residence Halls, from the Maginn Office Equipment Company, Champaign, at cost of $1,009.80. 2. Seventy-eight calves for the Wright Farms, for the Department of Agricultural Economics, from the F o x Valley Joliet Production Credit Association, at a cost of $2,029.71 (University's share). O n m o t i o n of M r . D a v i s , t h e a c t i o n of t h e C o m p t r o l l e r in a u t h o r izing these p u r c h a s e s w a s a p p r o v e d a n d confirmed.

PURCHASE OF TEXTBOOKS A N D EQUIPMENT FROM NAVY

(4) Textbooks and equipment for student use in medical and dental courses purchased for Navy trainees and owned by the Navy have been offered to the University for resale by it. The University has submitted a bid of 50 per cent of the list price and the Navy has indicated that it is ready to accept that bid. The material will be resold at cost to trainee students for their permanent personal use at the conclusion of the current quarter, at which time they will become civilian students. T h e Business Manager of the Chicago departments and the Comptroller request authority to conclude this purchase, which will be handled through the revolving fund of the Student Supply Store, at a total cost of $20,346.31. I concur and recommend approval. O n m o t i o n of M r . D a v i s , t h e s e r e c o m m e n d a t i o n s w e r e a d o p t e d . CONTRACT FOR FREIGHT ELEVATOR IN CHICAGO ILLINI U N I O N B U I L D I N G (5) Among the items covered by an appropriation of $50,000 for Replacements and Capital Additions in the Physical Plant (Minutes, August 29, 1945, page 625) was a freight elevator in the Chicago Mini Union Building, a new addition.
