The Board considered the following matters presented by the President of the University.

AUTHORITY TO CONFER DEGREES (1) A recommendation that the President be authorized to confer degrees at the Commencement exercises of the Colleges and Schools at Urbana-Champaign on June 16, 1946; on candidates in the Colleges of Medicine, Dentistry, and Pharmacy in Chicago on June 2 1 ; and on the candidates who complete the requirements for graduation at the end of the 1946 Summer Session in August and in September, who qualify, and are recommended for their respective degrees by the University Senate.

On motion of Mrs. Grigsby, the President of the University was authorized to confer degrees as recommended.

AWARD O F CERTIFICATES O F CERTIFIED PUBLIC ACCOUNTANT (2) T h e Committee on Accountancy recommends that the certificate of Certified Public Accountant be awarded the following who have made applications therefor under the Accountancy Act of 1943 and who have presented evidence to the Committee that they a r e properly qualified. Candidates holding unrevoked C.P.A. certificates issued by other states or territories of the United States or the District of Columbia (Section 5) :

RESIGNATION O F MEMBER O F SPECIAL BOARD OF EXAMINERS IN ACCOUNTANCY (3) Mr. John W . Queenan, who was appointed on December 18, 1943, a s a C.P.A. member of the Special Board of Examiners in Accountancy established by the Illinois Accountancy Act of 1043, has resigned because he is going to New York in t h e near future and will be unable to continue serving. H e has asked that his resignation be effective July 1, 1946. Under the law appointments to this Special Board are made by the Board of Trustees with the concurrence of the Director of Registration and Education. I have asked the Committee on Accountancy of the University to submit the names of candidates for consideration by the Director of Registration and Education and the Board of Trustees. In the meantime, I recommend the acceptance of Mr. Queenan's resignation. O n m o t i o n of M r . F o r n o f , this resignation w a s accepted a s recommended. SCHOLASTIC REQUIREMENTS I N ENGINEERINGPHYSICS CURRICULUM (4) T h e University Senate recommends the following requirement for registration in the Engineering-Physics Curriculum: "Students in the Engineering-Physics Curriculum, when registering for advanced undergraduate courses in Physics at any stage in that curriculum, must have a grade average of at least 3.5 in all subjects, exclusive of the basic courses in military training and physical education, and a combined grade average of at least 3.5 in all subjects in Mathematics and. Physics taken prior to such registration. Transfer students must have a corresponding record in the institution from which they transfer and must maintain such status at the University of Illinois."
