POST-GRADUATE COURSE FOR PHARMACISTS (18) The College of Pharmacy requests authorization of a post-graduate short course for registered pharmacists to be offered annually. This year the course would be given April 15-17, inclusive. A fee of $5 for each registrant is proposed to cover the expenses. I recommend authorization of this program, as an annual service, and the collection of the fee proposed, the income therefrom to be placed in a special account against which the expenses of the course shall be charged, any unexpended balance in this account to go into the University's General Reserve Fund.

On motion of Mr. Davis, these recommendations were adopted.

AGREEMENTS FOR COOPERATIVE INVESTIGATIONS (19) A report of the approval of the following agreements for cooperative investigations: 1. Association of American Railroads, a study of the fatigue strength of welded joints in structural members, by the Engineering Experiment Station. T h e agreement is drawn for a period of one year from February 1, 1941, with provisions for its extension. The Association agrees to pay the University $5,000 for the expenses of this work. 2. Extension of agreement with the Utilities Research Commission, covering the cooperative investigations known as Case No. 31, Boiler Waters, and Case No. 34, Stack Gases, for one year beginning January 1, 1941; also, that the cooperative investigation known as Case No. 23, Stretching of Lead Sheathing, be discontinued and in its place a new cooperative investigation known as Case No. 75, Lead Sheath Materials, substituted under the same terms and conditions as in Case No. 23. The 1041 budget for the Utilities Research Commission includes the following appropriations: Case No. 31, Boiler Waters, $8,500; Case No. 34, Stack Gases, $7,000; and Case No. 75, Lead Sheath Materials, $4,750. 3. National W a r m Air Heating and Air Conditioning Association, extension of agreement for the cooperative investigation entitled " W a r m Air Furnaces and Furnace Heating Systems" for one year from April 1, 1941. The Association agrees to provide $6,000 for the expenses of this study, which is an increase of $1,000 over last year. 4. Extension of agreement with the Kellogg Company for an investigation of the effect of bran upon the alimentary tract by the College of Medicine for two months from January I, 1941. The Company agrees to contribute an additional $1,300 to cover the cost of continuing this investigation. 5. American Society of Heating and Ventilating Engineers, extension of agreement for Heating and Ventilation investigation for one year from January 1, 1041. The Society will pay the University $1,800 to cover the expenses of this investigation during this period. 6. American Potash Institute, agreement for study of the status of boron in Illinois soils to determine the possible need of boron additions for crop production for three years from February 1, 1041. The Institute has agreed to contribute $3,000 for the expenses of this investigation.

On motion of Mr. Geary, these agreements were approved.

PURCHASES RECOMMENDED (20) A recommendation that the following purchases be authorized: 1. Caps and gowns to be rented for the use of members of the graduating class for the 1941 Commencement, from the Collegiate Cap & Gown Company, Champaign, the lowest bidder, at a total cost of approximately $3,105. 2. 400 cases (carload) of paper towels from the Decatur Paper House, the lowest bidder, at a total cost of $1,300 f.o.b. Urbana. 3. Automobile insurance, providing coverage of $5,000 for property damage and $25,ooo/$50,ooo for public liability on the University's fleet of 61 passenger cars and 52 trucks, for one year from April 4, 1941, from the American Automobile Insurance Company of St. Louis, Missouri, through its representative, Beers & Beers, Champaign, Illinois, the lowest bidder, at a premium of $1,281.83. 4. One Anderson Model 34-C Filler and Capper (ice cream packaging machine) from the Anderson Bros. Manufacturing Company, Rockford, Illinois,
