chemical for the control of dental caries. T h e Committee recommends that Doctor Stephan be authorized to apply for a patent, the same to be assigned to the University. Dr. William H . Welker, H e a d of the Department of Physiological Chemistry, and Executive Dean Allen recommended that a patent application be filed. 2. Mr. Arthur Toy, a graduate student working under the direction of Dr. L. F . Audrieth, Associate Professor of Chemistry, has isolated a number of morpholine derivatives of alkyl and aryl phosphoric acids. It is possible that the properties of the new class of compounds are such as to have some slight commercial value. This is, however, uncertain, and at best so relatively insignificant that on the advice of Professor Roger Adams, H e a d of the Department, the Committee recommends that the discovery be released to Mr. Toy. It is extremely doubtful that the University will have any interest in the discovery. 3. Dr. H . E. Carter, Assistant Professor of Chemistry, has worked out certain improvements in the method of preparing one of the intermediates-a//>/iahydroxy-J><?fa-dimethyl-<;awma-butyrolactone. T h e modified method is said to yive better yields and to be more convenient than those previously reported. T h e Committee concluded that the discovery was of such doubtful value from every standpoint as not to justify the expenditure of University funds for filing an application for a patent. T h e Committee, therefore, recommends that the discovery be released to Doctor Carter. O n m o t i o n of M r . K a r r a k e r , t h e a p p l i c a t i o n f o r p a t e n t b y D r .
