APPROPRIATION AND CONTRACTS FOR CONSTRUCTION OF BUILDING AT t O t 1 WEST SPRINGFIELD AVENUE, URBANA

(14) The Director of the Physical Plant and the Vice-President and Comptroller recommend awards, of contracts, as listed below, to the lowest bidders for the construction of a building at the southeast corner of Springfield Avenue and Harvey Street for general University use. The building will be assigned initially for use by the Department of Zoology and by the Bureau of Institutional Research — one-fourth of the space to Zoology and the rest to the Bureau. It will be necessary to relocate the Bureau at an early date because the small.frame house in which it is now located must be removed to provide part of the site for the construction of the second unit of the Physics Building. General — Casserly Construction Company, Champaign, formerly known as the Building Specialists Company $28 143 Electrical — Neal Morton Electric, Champaign 5 764 Plumbing — Thomas Plumbing and Heating Company, Urbana 4 900 Heating, Piping, Refrigeration, and Automatic Temperature Control Systems — Reliable Plumbing and Heating Company, Champaign 3 290 Ventilating and Distribution System for Conditioned Air — Reliable Plumbing and Heating Company, Champaign 4 389 This building will be one of the new buildings proposed by the Physical Plant Department to provide much needed additional space which can be readily converted from one use to another. These buildings will be located in fringe areas so that in construction and design they need not be consistent with trie architectural features of buildings on the main campus and will be constructed on land not required in the near future for permanent buildings. Submitted herewith is a supporting memorandum from the Physical Plant apartment on this project, including a schednle of the bids received, a copy of which is being filed with the Secretary of the Board for record. The total construction cost is $56,500. An appropriation of $11,000 was previously made by the Board of Trustees for a Zoology Experimental Building and 1 available for part of the cost; an additional appropriation of $45,500 from 5 the General Reserve Fund is requested for the balance, I concur.

On motion of Mr. Johnston, the contracts were awarded, as recommended, and the requested assignment of funds was made by the following vote: Aye, Mr. Clement, Mr. DiUiard, Mr. Hughes, Mr. Johnston, Mr. Pogue, Mr. Swain, Mrs. Watkins, Mr. Wilkins, Mr. Williamson; no, none; absent, Mr. Harewood, Mr. Kerner.
