CHICAGO UNDERGRADUATE DIVISION SITE

(15) The action of the Board of Trustees at its meeting on February 16, 1961, accepting the offer of the Harrison-Halsted Streets site for the new Chicago Undergraduate Division campus authorized the President of the University to develop a memorandum of understanding between the University of Illinois, the city of Chicago, and the Chicago Land Clearance Commission, such memorandum to be presented to the Board for approval at a subsequent meeting. President Henry stated that since the last meeting of the Board of Trustees, discussions have been held with representatives of the city of Chicago and the Chicago Land Clearance Commission concerning various phases of planning such as the priority for the delivery of various land parcels within the site, traffic questions, and the procedures to be followed in developing a contract for acquisition of the land by the University. Ultimately, a contract wilt be executed by the Board of Trustees, but such contract will not be ready for Board action for several months. However, this does not mean that planning by the University will stop in the interim. In fact, the continuation of the University's studies on site planning is essential in order that sufficient information may be available to provide a firm basis for the contract terms with the city of Chicago and the Chicago Land Clearance Commission. This report was received for record.
