APPOINTMENTS TO T H E FACULTY (3) T h e following new appointments to the faculty of the rank of Assistant Professor and above, and involving tenure, have been approved since the previous meeting of the Board of Trustees. Positions in the University are classified in the following categories and are designated in the budget by the symbols indicated: A — indefinite t e n u r e ; B — two y e a r s ; D — one y e a r ; E — nine months from the beginning of the academic y e a r ; G — special tenure; Y — twelve months' service required instead of two semesters. Figures following a symbol indicate percentage of time if the appointment is on a part-time basis (e.g., D75 means one year on three-fourths time). 1. WILLIAM F. EICKER, Consultant with rank of Assistant Professor, Children's Research Center (Urbana), beginning September 1, 1966, without salary ( D Y ) . 2. PATRICK J. G. GRANT, Visiting Assistant Professor of English (Urbana), for the second semester of 1966-67, at a salary of $4,400 ( D ) . 3. APPOINTMENT OF CHANCELLOR, URBANA (4) At its meeting of June 15, 1966, the Board of Trustees approved the establishment of an administrative position to be designated Chancellor of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. After consultation with appropriate administrative officers, and with the advice of a committee selected by the Urbana-Champaign Senate, 1 I now recommend the appointment of Jack W. Peltason, presently Vice-Chancellor for Academic Affairs at the University of California at Irvine, as Chancellor of the Urbana-Champaign Campus. The appointment would become effective at a date yet to be determined but no later than September 1, 1967. Dr. Peltason is also recommended for appointment as Professor of Political Science on indefinite tenure. T h e appointment is recommended on a twelve-month service basis and at a salary of $32,000. As indicated earlier, the Chancellor, under the direction of the President, will serve as the chief executive officer for the campus. He will perform such duties as may be delegated and assigned to him by the President and as may be consistent with the Statutes of the University and the actions of the Board of Trustees. Comparable positions now exist, by action of the Board of Trustees, at the Chicago Circle campus and at the Medical Center.
