CONTRACTS FOR CONSTRUCTION OF RESIDENCE HALL FOR GRADUATE STUDENTS (11) The Director of the Physical Plant and the Vice-President and Comptroller recommend awards of contracts as follows for the construction of the second unit of a residence hall for graduate students on Green Street in Urbana to house 214 students; the award in each case is to the lowest bidder: General — Johnson, Drake, and Piper, Inc., Terre Haute, Indiana $628 600 This includes $S,6oo for servicing all other construction contracts which will be assigned to the general contractor. Electrical •— Knight Electric Company, Inc., Evansville, Indiana 52 160 Plumbing—George S. Walker Plumbing and Heating, Inc., Decatur 106 658 Heating — E. F . Shepler and Sons, Pekin 54 873 (Emanuel F., Robert W., Jack H., and Richard L. Shepler, a partnership) Ventilating —• Schroeder and Sons Company, Champaign 7 498 Funds for this and the Orchard Downs Apartments will be available from the proceeds of the sale of "The Board of Trustees of the University of Illinois Housing Revenue Bonds of i960, Series A," bids on which are being received today. Based on the budget prepared for this project, and including the contracts herein recommended, it can be completed within the estimated cost of $1,150,000 contemplated in the financing. Subject to completion of the financing, I concur in the recommendation for the awards of these contracts. Submitted herewith is a report from the Physical Plant Department on the bids received, a copy of which is being filed with the Secretary of the Board for record.

On motion of Mr. Johnston, these contracts were awarded, as recommended, by the following vote: Aye, Mr. Clement, Mr. Harewood, Mr. Herrick, Mr. Hughes, Mr. Johnston, Mr. Pogue, Mr. Swain, Mrs. Watkins, Mr. Wilkins, Mr. Williamson; no, none; absent, Mr. Stratton.

CONTRACT FOR TRANSFORMER VAULT AND SWITCHGEAR BUILDING AT THE CHICAGO PROFESSIONAL COLLEGES CAMPUS (12) The Director of the Physical Plant and the Vice-President and Comptroller recommend the award of a contract for $23,386 to R. V. Monahan Construction Company, Chicago, Illinois, the lowest bidder, for the constniction of an addition to the Research and Educational Hospitals Building to house transformers and switchgear. This will be the first phase of work to improve the electrical services and to eliminate a serious overload in the first unit of the Dentistry-MedicinePharmacy Building. Funds are available in the state capital appropriations to the University for 1959-61 and have been released by the Governor for this purpose. I concur.

On motion of Mr. Hughes, this contract was awarded by the following vote: Aye, Mr. Clement, Mr. Harewood, Mr. Herrick, Mr. Hughes, Mr. Johnston, Mr. Pogue, Mr. Swain, Mrs. Watkins, Mr. Wilkins, Mr. Williamson; no, none; absent, Mr. Stratton.

CONTRACT AND APPROPRIATIONS FOR DEVELOPMENT O F RECREATIONAL AREA ( J 3) The Director of the Physical Plant and the Vice-President and Comptroller recommend: Authorization of the development of a recreational area-—to include the construction of tennis courts, basketball practice courts, and a sidewalk along
