APPROPRIATIONS FOR NONRECURRING EXPENDITURES (8) The Committee on Nonrecurring Appropriations recommends assignments of funds from the University's General Reserve, and from funds available in the State capital appropriations to the University for 1959-61 for remodeling, for the following: 1. College of Agriculture Department of Agronomy, remodeling toilet facilities at Agronomy South Farm $ 3 000 00 Department of Animal Science, painting exterior surface and repairing windows of facilities at the Poultry Farm 4 400 00 Department of Forestry, alterations of space in Old Agronomy Storehouse for student laboratories 2 600 00 Department of Horticulture, remodeling Room 115, Horticulture Field Laboratory 4 000 00 2. College of Education Remodeling of storage space and classrooms into laboratories in University High School, and purchase of laboratory equipment.. 19 600 00 Remodeling classroom, and purchase of equipment 14 700 00 Exhaust hoods and equipment for chemistry, physics, and biology in University High School 15 700 00 3. College of Liberal Arts and Sciences Department of Geology, enclosing court in Natural History Building for graduate student research in geology 20 000 00 Total $84 000 00 The Vice-President and Provost recommends the following operating appropriation from the University General Reserve for 1960-61: 1. Department of Animal Science, for operating expenses of animal breeding research program (a $200,000 grant for buildings for this program has been received from the Moorman Manufacturing Company of Quincy) $10 800 00 I concur.

CONTRACTS FOR CONSTRUCTION OF ORCHARD D O W N S APARTMENTS (9) The Director of the Physical Plant and the Vice-President and Comptroller recommend awards of contracts as follows for the construction of the first group of the Orchard Downs Apartments of 252 units for married students, in the area west of Race Street and south of the present Orchard Place Apartments at Orchard Street and Florida Avenue; the award in each case is to the lowest bidder: General — Shapland Construction Company, Champaign $1 633 500 Base bid $1 560 200 Additive Alternates: For servicing all other construction contracts which will be assigned to the general contractor 23 650 Ceramic tile floors in bathrooms instead of vinyl asbestos 5 850 Construction of exterior concrete sidewalks and steps throughout the site 43 800 Electrical — Art-O-Lite Company, Galesburg 167 632 Base bid $ 149 816 Plus additive alternate for installation of site lighting for roads, parking areas, and sidewalks 17 816
