LEAVES OF ABSENCE (17) A recommendation that the following leaves of absence be granted members of the staff for the reasons and periods and under the conditions indicated in each case: 1. Dr. Marion Hood, Associate in the Department of Medicine, leave of absence with pay from June 1 to August 31, 1938, to enable her to work in the Gorgas Memorial Institute in Panama. 2. Josie B. Houchens, Binding Librarian, one month beginning August 1, 1938, without pay, in addition to her regular vacation allowance of one month with pay, to enable her to do certain work at Columbia University. 3. Dean William B. Day, of the College of Pharmacy, April 1 to June 15, 1938, with pay, on account of illness. This is an extension of a leave previously granted him covering the period, January 1 to April 1, 1938. H i s work is being carried on by the College without additional expense to the University. 4. Mr. H . Carl Oesterling, Editor, University Press, leave of absence with pay from January 31 to March 12, 1938, on account of illness. His work has been carried on during his absence without additional expense to the University. 5. Mr. George Miller, Technician in the Department of Anatomy, College of Medicine, leave of absence from July 15 to August 15, with pay, in addition to his vacation allowance of one month, on account of travel abroad. This will involve no expense to the University. O n m o t i o n of M r . Cleary, t h e s e leaves w e r e g r a n t e d as r e c o m mended. LEAVE OF ABSENCE FOR ASSISTANT PROFESSOR MARIE M. HOSTETTER (18) Miss Marie M. Hostetter, Assistant Professor in the Library School, has applied for a leave of absence for one year beginning September 1, 1938, without pay, to enable her to take graduate work at the University of Chicago. T h e Director of the Library School recommends approval and I concur.

This leave was granted as recommended.

CHANGE FN STATUS OF GENERAL RESERVE F U N D (19) A report of the following adjustments in the budget of the University increasing the balance in the General Reserve F u n d : 1. Excess of income from student fees over income estimated when the budget was prepared $25 000 00 2. Unexpended balances in special non-recurring appropriations made on August 2, 1937, which have been lapsed (lists of these lapsed balances have been sent to the Secretary and Comptroller for record.) 17 571 24 Total $42 571 24 This report was received for record. SPECIAL A N D N O N - R E C U R R I N G APPROPRIATIONS (20) A recommendation that the following special appropriations be made from the General Reserve Fund for the purposes indicated; the Committee on Special Appropriations and Non-Recurring Expenditures has had under consideration a large number of requests for assignments of funds for various purposes, all of them important, and the following items represent a preliminary selection of those which are considered most pressing: 1. Addressograph equipment for Alumni Records (partial replacement of old equipment) $ 750 2. Book shelving equipment and remodeling to provide additional facilities for the College of Medicine L i b r a r y . . 5 000 3.
