SOCIAL CONDITIONS IN UNIVERSITY DISTRICT (26) There exist in the neighborhood of the University but in areas over which it has no control, certain conditions which result in an unwholesome environment and are detrimental to the interests of the student body. W h e n such conditions are found, it is the policy of the University administration to bring them promptly to the attention of the local municipal authorities. W h e n it is impossible for these authorities to eliminate such conditions, the alternative is that the University take such steps as it can either directly or through the cooperation of civic bodies and individual citizens. I request the instructions of the Board as to the policy which should be followed by University administrative officials in dealing with such problems.

This matter was referred to the President of the University.
