INCREASE IN STUDENT FEES (17) Pursuant to the instructions of the Board at its meeting on June 9, 1937 (Minutes, page 204), I have submitted to each member a report made by the Bureau of Institutional Research of the probable effect of an increase in the fees charged non-residents of Illinois to $125 per semester in the undergraduate colleges and a corresponding appropriate increase in the fees charged nonresidents of Illinois in the Colleges of Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy, and Law and in the Graduate School. A copy of this report and a copy of the report of the Committee on Fees and Scholarships presented at the meeting on June 9 are hereby given to the Secretary of the Board for record. In view of the findings of the Bureau I am not prepared to recommend an increase in the fees of non-resident students. N o action was taken, but M r . Cleary stated that at a subsequent Board meeting he would offer a motion to increase the fees charged non-residents of Illinois. This matter was made a special order of business for the September meeting.

RESOLUTION FROM ILLINOIS PRESS ASSOCIATION REQUESTING CHANGE IN NAME O F SCHOOL O F JOURNALISM

Mr. Cleary, for the Committee on General Policy, to which this resolution had been referred at a previous meeting, stated that the Committee requests more time for its consideration.

STUDENT MOTOR V E H I C L E REGULATIONS

(18) A request for authority to make such appointments or adjustments in the staff as may be necessary to secure more effective enforcement of the motor vehicle regulations applying to undergraduate students. On motion of Mr. Cleary, the Board voted to retain the present regulations, and the President of the University was authorized to take such steps as may be necessary to secure more effective enforcement thereof. On motion of Mr. Wieland, an appropriation of $2,000 was made from the General Reserve Fund for this purpose, by the following vote: Aye, Mr. Cleary, Mr. Karraker, Mr. Moschel, Mrs. Plumb, Mr. Pogue, Mr. Wieland; no, none; absent, Mr. Adams, Mrs. Freeman, Mr. Horner, Mr. Mayer, Dr. Meyer.

MASTER'S DEGREE I N ORTHODONTIA

(19) At its meeting on June 9, 1937 (Minutes, page 281), the Board requested further information on the proposal of the College of Dentistry that the time of the course Orthodontia 101 be extended a minimum of one-half time for an additional semester for candidates for the master's degree. Information is herewith submitted on the purpose of the increased time and how the fee of $600 is determined, and I renew the recommendation of the University Senate that this extension of time be authorized. On motion of Mr. Wieland, the recommendation of the University Senate was approved.

APPOINTMENTS IN VOCATIONAL EDUCATION

(20) A request that the President be authorized to make appointments in the field of vocational education (including agricultural, home economics, industrial, and commercial education) contingent upon the availability of State and Federal funds to pay the salaries and other expenses this work will involve.
