Note C.—Because of limited space in laboratories, students will be assigned during registration to one of these three courses each semester of the second year, and will complete the third member of the group in the junior year. Note D.—Electives in the second and third years should be chosen to satisfy specific courses required for admission by the medical school which the student expects to enter if preparing for a medical college other than the University of Illinois. Students who do not offer German or French for admission must continue the language in the third year. Electives in the three years must also include 14 hours from at least two of the following fields: anthropology, economics, history, philosophy, political science, psychology, and sociology.

FOURTH Y E A R

In this curriculum the fourth year may be either pre-medical or pre-clinical. Two options are therefore offered: A. The regular course of study in the first year in the College of Medicine in Chicago, or B. Completion of the regular Liberal Arts and Sciences requirements for the Bachelor's degree.

On motion of Mr. Moschel, this curriculum was approved as recommended.

READMISSION O F S T U D E N T S WITH S C H O L A S T I C D E F I C I E N C I E S T O C O L L E G E O F MEDICINE (20) T h e University Senate has approved a recommendation from the Faculty of the College of Medicine that the following new regulations be authorized to govern the dismissal of students for unsatisfactory work and the readmission after such dismissal of first-year and second-year students in that division: "A student in the first two years of the College of Medicine shall be subject to dismissal if he fails in one-half or more of the clock hours carried in any semester, or if he has received grades of 'D' or ' E ' in three or more major courses by the end of the first year, or accumulated four (4) or more ' D ' or ' E ' grades in major courses by the end of the third or fourth semester. Note: In the operation of the foregoing rule, a major course with an 'A' or 'B' grade shall be considered as counter-balancing one of 'D' or lower. "A small committee of the Junior Faculty shall be appointed by the Dean for ( a ) the consideration of the cases of all students who come under the rules for the dismissal for poor scholarship, and (b) the consideration of the readmission of students, and (c) the consideration of the conduct of the Second-Year Comprehensive Examinations. T h e findings of this Committee shall be presented to the Dean for action by the Junior Faculty."

On motion of Mr. Mayer, these regulations were adopted as recommended.
