PURCHASES RECOMMENDED (20) A recommendation that the following purchases be authorized: 1. Tubular steel scaffolding from the Patent Scaffolding Company, the low bidder, at a price of $8,749.05, f.o.b. Chicago. 2. 750 copies "Les Idees Traditionalistes en France de Rivarol a Charles Maurras," by Alphonse V. Roche, to be Volume 21, Nos. 1 and 2, of Illinois Studies in Language and Literature, to be printed by the George Banta Publishing Company, specialists in foreign language publications, at a price of $1,483.71, on the basis of a contract entered into with that Company for such publications in 1921 as modified by a price reduction of ten per cent in 1933. 3. Insulated lead covered cable, 7,233 ft. 7,500 volt 4 strand No. 2/0 varnished cambric, from the Okonite Company at a price of $9,482.46. All quotations submitted were based on a unit price of $1,311 per 1,000 ft., f.o.b. Urbana and include reels which are returnable for a credit of $379. T h e Okonite Company was selected because it will furnish a cable 2.01 inches in diameter, while the other bids were on cables of 1.969 inches diameter, and the Physical Plant Department prefers t h e larger diameter cable.

On motion of Mr. Mayer, these purchases were authorized.

PURCHASES AUTHORIZED (21) A report of the following emergency purchases, amounting to $1,000 or over, authorized by the President of the University: 1. No. 2 "GT," two stage, single suction, horizontal split case, "Cameron" ball bearing centrifugal pump, equipped with hydraulically balanced bronze impellers of back to back construction, C. I. casing, C. I. casing rings, case hardened steel shaft sleeves with metallic packing; pump mounted on extended base plate, and direct connected by flexible coupling t o : 1—"Terry" type Z-i single stage turbine for 1 4 0 * throttle and 2 0 # exhaust pressure, complete with excess pressure governor, from the Ingersoll-Rand Company at a price of $1,127 f.o.b. factory with freight allowed. 2. Newspaper plates of articles about the University distributed annually to the newspapers of the State, from the Western Newspaper Union of Chicago at a price of $1,103.25. 3. One carload of steel and iron bars, sheets, and structural shapes, for the Physical Plant Department stock for use in maintenance and construction work, from W. J. Holliday and Company, Chicago, the lowest bidder, at a price of $1,532.01 f.o.b. Urbana. 4. One carload of pipe and fittings for the Physical Plant Department stock from Weil-McLain Company, Chicago, the lowest bidder, at a price of $1,474.71 f.o.b. Urbana.

On motion of Mrs. Plumb, the action of the President of the University was confirmed.
