BOILER H O U S E ADDITION (27) A recommendation from the Supervising Architect: October 17, 1930 BOILER H O U S E A D D I T I O N President H. W. Chase, 355 Administration ( W ) Dear President Chase: W e have just received two bids on our specification for the smoke breeching required in the re-setting of the two boilers which we are raising in the Power Plant. They are as follows: Mississippi Valley Structural Steel Co. (Decatur) $'437 °° Robert Holmes & Bros., Inc. (Danville) 1480 00 I recommend that the contract be awarded to the low bidder, the Mississippi Valley Structural Steel Company, at their bid of $1,437.00. Yours truly,

Supervising Architect On motion of Dr. Noble, this contract was awarded as recommended. RELEASE OF DISCOVERY BY PROFESSOR WHITE (28) A report from the Committee on Patents: Urbana, Illinois October 18, 1930 President H. W . Chase, 333 Administration (W) Dear President Chase: The Committee on Patents has considered Professor James M . White's idea with reference to reducing sound in subways, which you brought to the attention of the Trustee Committee on Patents, and in as much as this i merely an idea of Professor s White and involved no expenditure of time or material on the part of the University, the Committee recommends that the Board of Trustees make a declaration that the University waive any rights which it may have in any discovery which Professor White may have made with reference to reducing sound in subways. Committee on Patents On motion of Dr. Noble, this recommendation was adopted. GOLF COURSE AND SKATING RINK Mr. Trees, for the Finance Committee, reported a recommendation that the Board express its interest in the proposal of the Athletic Association to enlarge the golf course, i the land can be found, and f that the matter be referred to the Committee on Buildings and Grounds and the President of the University for investigation and report; further, that the Board approve the request of the Athletic Association for permission to proceed with the erection of a skating rink. O n motion of Mr. Trees, this report was adopted. SURETY BONDS O n motion of Mrs. Blake, i was voted that i is the sense of the t t Board that whenever it is necessary for the University to take surety bonds, the bonds shall be referred to the Finance Committee in advance of acceptance by the University.
