INSTRUMENTS PURCHASED FOR PHYSICS LABORATORY

(15) I have authorized the purchase of instruments for the Physics Laboratory, from an appropriation already made, as follows: 1 Hilger all-metal quartz spectrograph, $2145. 1 Quartz optical system for above, $1310. O n m o t i o n of M r s . E v a n s , this action w a s confirmed.

GIFTS TO THE UNIVERSITY

(16) The following report of gifts received by the University since the last report: 1. From the R o h m and Haas Company of Philadelphia, through Mr. Otto Haas, President, an offer of $1,000 to establish a research fellowship in thefieldof high pressure gas reactions—similar to the one now supported by the Tennessee Products Corporation. 2. From the Westinghouse Electric and Manufacturing Company, through Mr. H. H. Coe, Central Station Division, Springfield, an offer of two Capacitors, valued at $300, for the use of the Department of Electrical Engineering. 3. From the DuPont de Nemours & Company $750 (payment to be made in September, 1930) to continue the DuPont Fellowship in chemistry for the academic year 1930-31. TREASURER'S REPORT OF COLLECTION OF FUNDS DUE ON CERTIFICATES OF DEPOSIT

(17) A report that Mr. H. S. Capron, Treasurer, has collected the entire amount of $105,000 due on certificates of deposit which were placed with him for collection by Mr. A. M . Burke, former Treasurer of the University, at the time of the transfer of funds in his custody. The Acting Comptroller reports further that he has received from M r . Capron duplicates of deposit tickets covering the deposit of the above amount to his account as Treasurer.
