PROPOSED G R E G O R Y MEMORIAL Mrs. Ickes, for the special committee to suggest a form for a memor a to Regent John Milton Gregory, presented the following report: il Your committee appointed to c n e with a committee from the Gregorians ofr and to recommend to the Board of Trustees a suitable form for the recognition of Dr. J. M . Gregory, met on June 12th, 1926, M r . Armstrong, M r . W h a m , and Mrs. Ickes representing the Board and Senator Dunlap, M r . Coddington, M r . Bullard, M r . Parsons, and Dr. Gibson. W e told the Gregorian Committee that the Board had adopted the policy that no building erected out of State funds should be named for an individual. The Gregorian Committee, while stating that itsfirstchoice for a memorial for Dr. Gregory would be the naming of a building for him, said that its second choice would be a memorial art collection, this collection to be suitably housed in a University building, and called the Gregory Memorial Art Gallery. They also asked permission to erect a bronze memorial tablet. This suggestion met with the approval of your committee and w e hereby recommend the installing of an art collection, the same to be made the nucleus of a permanent art collection, a memorial to the first President of the University of Illinois, and called The Gregory Memorial Art Collection. W e further recommend that the Gregorians be permitted to erect a memorial tablet to Dr. Gregory in connection with this collection subject to the University regulations on the acceptance of objects of art. OPENING OF BIDS ON CONSTRUCTION WORK Mr. Armstrong, for the Finance Committee, presented the following recommendation: Contracts for construction work for which specific State appropriations are made shall be awarded on the basis of sealed bids publicly opened in the presence of at least one member of the Board of Trustees and the Supervising Architect or his assistant. J. W . Armstrong Mary E. Busey This recommendation was adopted. REGULATION OF TUTORING Mrs. Grigsby, for the Committee on Instruction, presented a recommendation that no action be taken on the proposed regulation concerning tutoring (page 640). O n motion of Dr. Noble, this recommendation was adopted. RETIRING ALLOWANCES OF PROFESSORS BARTON. GOEBEL, A N D HARKER Mr. W h a m , for the special committee on the amount of retiring allowances for Professors Barton, Goebel, and Harker, presented the following report.
