URBANA, I I I . , August 1, 1894.

On the occasion of acquiring the age of eighty-seven years his fellow members of the Board of Trustees of the University of Illinois wish to extend to the Honorable John H. Bryant their congratulations. We note with pleasure and gratitude that'this ripe age has been reached in health and in vigor of mind; that the heart is warm, the mind clear, and that the rich experiences of life, which have accumulated wisdom in him, are still the enjoyment of friends and m sociates. We regard him as a noble example of American manhood, the product of our American institutions, a ripe scholar, an earnest student, a royal character, a true patriot and loyal citizen, and a noble loving friend. We hope that the coming years may bear lightly upon him and that his great store of wisdom may long be a help to his fellow men. It is such lives of men that inspire us to labor so that footprints may be left on the sands of time, not to be swiftly" washed away, but changed to enduring stonef that may point others to lives of honor and integrity, tilled with noble deeds. By order of the Board,
