The committee also recommends that assignments be made of the funds of the State Laboratory of Natural History, as follows:

Finance Committee. T h e S e c r e t a r y stated t h a t B r i g a d i e r - G e n e r a l D . W . Flagler, Chief of O r d n a n c e , U n i t e d S t a t e s A r m y , was ready to issue to t h e U n i v e r s i t y "two 3.2-inch B . L . steel field g u n s with carriages, etc., i n lieu of t h e two muzzle-loading g u n s , etc., now on h a n d . " B u t t h a t in o r d e r to secure these it was necessary t h a t t h e U n i v e r s i t y s h o u l d give bond, with two sufficient securities, in t h e s u m of $9,799.72, in o r d e r to i n s u r e to t h e W a r D e p a r t m e n t t h e p r o p e r care a n d t h e r e t u r n of these g u n s a n d e q u i p m e n t s . T h e B o a r d a d o p t e d t h e following r e s o l u t i o n : WHEREAS, Brigadier-General D. W. Flagler, Chief of Ordnance of the United States Army, has informed the President of this University that he is ready to issue to the University two 3.2-inch B. L. steel field guns with carriages, etc., in lieu of the two muzzle-loading guns, etc., now on hand, and WHEREAS, The University will be required, if this change is made, to furnish a bond in the sum of $9,799.72; therefore be it Besolved, That the President of the University be authorized to effect the •exchange of field guns, and that the President and Secretary of this Board be authorized to execute, in the name of the University, a bond for the above named amount.
