M E E T I N G OF J U N E 26, 1896.

The Board of Trustees of the University of Illinois met in special session at Hotel Beardsley, in Champaign, 111., at 8 o'clock a. m., Friday, June 26, 1896, pursuant to the following call issued by the Secretary, June 20, 1896: " Upon the call of the President, Mr. James E. Armstrong, there will be a special meeting of the Board of Trustees at Hotel Beardsley, Champaign, 111., at 8 o'clock a. m., Friday, June 26th, to transact such business as may be properly presented. The members present were Messrs. Armstrong, Graham, McLean, Morgan, Morrison, and Eaymond and Dr. Smith; those absent were Governor Altgeld, and Messrs. Bullard, Inglis, and Judy and Mrs. Flower. Mr. Bullard came in later.

FLAG LAW INDICTMENT,

The President, Mr. Armstrong, stated that a conference of a number of the members of the Board was held in Chicago shortly after the last meeting of the Board, and that there the matter of the indictment of the members of the Board for alleged violation of the flag law was discussed; and he also stated what steps had been taken to procure legal counsel for the trial set for 8:30 this morning. The Board then took a recess to meet, after attending court, in the President's office, University Hall, Urbana, at 11:30 a. m. When the Board met after the recess, on motion of Mr. McLean, it was voted that it be entered in the journal that Judge Wright, of the Circuit Court in Champaign county, holding that the laws were unconstitutional, had this day quashed the indictment found against the members of the Board of Trustees of the University for alleged failure to display the American flag in the precise manner provided by the statutes enacted at the last session of the General Assembly.
