While the petition from the Athletic Association was under consideration, Mr. C. S. Bouton, of the Association, was given ten minutes t o explain plans for the use of the g r o u n d s asked for, and t h e character of t h e contests which it was proposed t o hold thereon. The m a t t e r was finally referred t o the Committee on Buildings and Grounds, with power t o act, the President and Regent being added t o the committee in the consideration of this subject. On motion of Mr. Harker, $200 was assigned from current funds t o complete coal and iron shed and water closets a t t h e shops. On motion of Mr. Bullard, $225 was assigned from current funds for fitting three more rooms with settees and teachers' desks. On motion of Mr. Harker, $115 was assigned from s t a t e a p propriation for a p p a r a t u s and material, for swords a n d belts. On motion of Mr. Bullard, there wTas assigned from s t a t e appropriation for mechanical and architectural s h o p s :

*' drawing boards and priper, professor of architecture ' ' cases for testing instruments, mechanical laboratory

On motion of Mr. Harker, there was assigned from current funds:

On motion of Mr. Bullard, there was assigned from the state appropriation for buildings and grounds:

The following a p p r o p r i a t i o n s were made of funds of t h e S t a t e a b o r a t o r y of N a t u r a l H i s t o r y for t h e q u a r t e r beginning Octoer 1, 1890, on motion of Mr. Bullard :

For field work, office and incidental expenses., ' ' salaries and assistance ' ' improvement of the library

The question of g r a n t i n g degrees t o persons who g r a d u a t e d from the University prior t o ' t h e act of 1877, giving t h e University power t o confer degrees, together witii t h e question of conferring h o n o r a r y degrees, was referred t o the Regent a n d Messrs. Bennett and Harker, who wTere asked t o report thereon a t t h e next meeting of t h e Board.
