wishes to make the 1933 payment $1,200, which with the $1,300 on hand will make a total of $2,500 available for the work, with t h e understanding that t h e University will continue the work in tuberculosis during 1933 and 1934 along the original plans but in a more limited way. The Dean of the College of Medicine recommends, and I concur, that this modification of the original plan be accepted by the Board.

On motion of Dr. Noble, this modification was accepted.

APPROVAL OF PURCHASES (7) A report of the approval of the following purchases, amounting to $1,000 or over, since the last report was made to the Board: A carload of Chemically Pure and Commercial Acids from the Grasselli Chemical Company, the low bidder, at a price of $1,326.11, f.o.b. Urbana, to be charged to the General Chemical Stores appropriation.

NATIONAL RESEARCH COUNCIL GRANTS TO MEMBERS OF THE FACULTY (9) A report that the National Research Council has made the following assignments of funds to members of the faculty for research work: To Professor J. T. Tykociner, of the Department of Electrical Engineering, and Professor Jacob Kunz, of the Department of Physics, jointly, a second grant for technical assistance and the purchase of supplies for use in connection with their work on the precise determination of the magnetic moment of hydrogen S450 00 To Professor Maurice B. Visscher, of the College of Medicine, for technical assistance and the purchase of chemical supplies for use in his investigations on the mechanical efficiency of heart muscle 250 00 To Professor Ernst Gellhorn, of the College of Medicine, for the purchase of supplies in connection with his study of the influence of metabolities and internal secretions on fatigue 500 00

GIFTS TO THE UNIVERSITY (10) The following gifts have been received by the University since the last report: From Dr. William Trelease, Professor of Botany, Emeritus, 51 volumes of the Encyclopedia of American Biography, a beautifully printed and bound set which contains biographical information which is often difficult to obtain elsewhere. From Dr. C. W. Burrill, of Kansas City, Missouri, 17 volumes. Doctor Burrill is the only surviving brother of Dr. Thomas J. Burrill, former Vice-President of the University. From Professor John A. Fairlie, 60 volumes of valuable publications, chiefly of the National Industrial Conference Board. From Mead Johnson and Company, $2,000 in support of the investigations of Dr. C. I. Reed, Assistant Professor in the Department of Physiology, of the College of Medicine, on the physiological action of irradiated ergosterol of high potency. This is a continuation of work which has previously been financed by this company.

BEQUEST OF WENSEL MORAVA (11) A report was presented to the Board at its meeting on November 19, 1932 (Minutes, page 147), of t h e bequest of the late Wensel Morava, of the Class of 1878. The hearing on the will was set for the latter part of December, and the University in the meantime executed an appearance. This report was received for record.
