INVESTIGATION OF AERATION OF SEWAGE (13) A report of the authorization of an agreement with the Vogt Brothers Manufacturing Company of Louisville, Kentucky, for an investigation by the Engineering Experiment Station of devices for aeration of sewage. This agreement will cover a period of two years from October i, 1930, and the Company agrees to pay $2,200 per year, or a total of $4,400, for the expenses of this investigation. INVESTIGATION OF CAST-IRON PIPE (14) A report of the authorization of an extension of the agreement for the investigation of cast-iron pipe from November 1, 1930, the expiration date, to November 1, 1931. The Sectional Committee on Cast-Iron Pipe will provide the additional sum of $300 for the expenses of this investigation. O n m o t i o n of M r . APPROVALOF REQUISITIONS FOR VARIOUS ITEMS OF EQUIPMENT

(15) A report for record of the approval of requisitions for the following: 1. Band instruments to cost $2,010.24 net from C. G. Conn, Ltd., of Elkhart, Indiana, to be charged against an appropriation of $4,000 which was made to the Military Bands for replacements of equipment (Minutes, June 19, 1930, page 693). 2. A rail testing machine for the College of Engineering to be built by the J. B. Hayes Machine Company of Urbana on the basis of special specifications at a price to be based on labor and material, but not to exceed a maximum of $1,688. The expense is chargeable to one of the special funds provided by the Utilities Research Commission for investigation offissuresin steel rails. 3. Construction of a temporary laboratory near the Ceramics Kiln House for research in water treatment for ice manufacturing at a cost of $3,883.20, the expense to be charged to the special fund provided by the Utilities Research Commission for water treatment for ice manufacture. 4. Pyrex laboratory glassware for the General Chemistry Storeroom from E. H . Sargent and Company at a price of $2,434.98, f.o.b. Urbana, subject to 2 % cash discount. This company submitted the lowest quotation of five other companies invited to submit prices. Provision for this equipment has been made in the budget of the various departments which will use it. 5. A carload of two grades of paper from the Moser Paper Company at a price of $6.50 cwt for Montrose English Finish and $5.75 for Keystone Machine Finish, prices being f.o.b. Urbana, subject to 2 % discount for payment within thirty days. Provisions for this material have been made in the budgets of the various departments for whose publications it will be used. 6. Furniture and other furnishings for the President's Office from the Newton & Hoit Company at a price of approximately $2,549. Provision has been made in the Physical Plant Extension Budget for this equipment. This report w a s received for record.

CONTRACT WITH THE CHICAGO TOWEL COMPANY

(16) A report that I have authorized the Comptroller and Secretary to execute for the University a contract with the Chicago Towel Company for furnishing garments, towels and laundry service for the Chicago Departments. In the past this service has been secured month by month from this concern and others, but the University has owned the garments itself. It will be more economical for the University to contract for the garments, and towels, as well as the laundry service, instead of owning the garments itself. Provision for the expense of this service was made in the budgets of the various departments of the Chicago Schools. This report w a s received for record.
