1929] UNIVERSITY OF ILLINOIS 367 RESOLUTION CONCERNING PARK SYSTEM IN THE MEDICAL CENTER O N THE WEST SIDE OF CHICAGO (4a) The following letter from the Vice-President of The Presbyterian Hospital in Chicago was received by m e in July. If your Board acquiesces in the request to endorse the proposition explained in the letter I suggest the adoption of the following resolution: July 2, 1929 D e a r President Kinley: Enclosed please find copy of a letter which is being sent by order of the Board of Managers of The Presbyterian Hospital of The City of Chicago in the interests of Medical Center on the west side of the city to the following public authorities: Hon. William Hale Thompson, Mayor of Chicago; Hon. Anton J. Cermak, President of the Board of County Commissioners; Hon. Herman N . Bundeson, Coroner; Hon. James Simpson, Chairman of the Chicago Plan Commission; Hon. Michael J. Faherty, President of the Board of Local Improvements; Hon. Arnold H. Kegel, Commissioner of Health; Hon. Michael Zimmer, Warden of the Cook County Hospital. A copy is also being sent, with a letter similar to this, to the following: Mr. Harold H. Swift, President of the Board of Trustees of the University of Chicago; Rev. Robert M . Kelley, S.J., President of Loyola University. Will you kindly bring this matter to the attention of your Board of Trustees with a view to similar action, and any other and further action that they may deem proper. For your information, the matter is being studied by the technical staff of the Chicago Plan Commission. Yours respectfully, Alfred T. Carton V.P. Presbyterian Hospital RESOLUTION W H E R E A S , the Board of Managers of the Presbyterian Hospital of the City of Chicago has addressed a letter to the Board of Trustees of the University of Illinois requesting their cooperation in urging upon the public authorities of the City of Chicago and the County of Cook that the public interest demands the creation of parks, parkways, and boulevards requisite for a medical center in which are located institutions for the care of the sick under the control of various universities and hospitals, together with provision for the future growth. N O W , T H E R E F O R E B E I T R E S O L V E D by the Board of Trustees of the University of Illinois that the Board hereby expresses its approval of the proposal to form a park district which will include the area roughly bounded by Jackson Boulevard on the north, Ogden Avenue on the northwest, Robey Street on the west, Ashland Boulevard on the east, and Taylor Street on the south, within which are located the Cook County Hospital; the Presbyterian Hospital; the Medical Hospitals and Schools of the University of Illinois; Rush Medical College of the University of Chicago; the Medical College of Loyola University; and other hospitals and medical schools, and B E I T F U R T H E R R E S O L V E D , that the President of the Board of Trustees be authorized and requested to send the sense of this resolution to the proper public authorities and others interested.
