E N G L I S H P O E T R Y PRIZE F U N D (12) The Board of Trustees of July 28, 1925 (page 311), directed the purchase of $500 of 5 % bonds of the Commonwealth Edison Company as an investment of a part of the English Poetry Prize Fund. It was found that these bonds could not be secured in denominations of less than $1,000. O n advice from the Chairman of the Finance Committee, the Comptroller purchased $500 of West Penn Power Company 5 % bonds, series "E", due 1963, at a price of 985/2. I recommend that his action be confirmed by the Board. O n motion of M r . Armstrong, this action of the Comptroller w a s confirmed. QUARTERS FOR THE ENLISTED PERSONNEL OF THE MILITARY DEPARTMENT (13) The War Department i d c t d that i accordance with the p l c o niae n oiy f retrenchment made necessary by the reduced appropriations for its work, it might be necessary to quarter at Chanute Field the enlisted personnel at the University on R.O.T.C. duty. T o meet this emergency and to insure the continuance of good morale among these men while here, I offered the W a r Department the use of University buildings as temporary quarters for a maximum of twenty-five men. A committee consisting of Professor White, Chairman, Colonel Merry, and Dr. Beard recommended that the south wing of the hospital as it stands be used for barracks with the exception of the two west rooms, for the coming year. I submit this report of m y action in the emergency for approval and request authority to have the necessary changes made in the hospital to house the army men. The War Department will equip and operate the barracks and mess without expense to the University. O n motion of M r s . E v a n s , the Provost's action in this matter w a s approved a n d the necessary changes in the building were authorized. R E G I S T R A T I O N IN M I L I T A R Y S C I E N C E L I M I T E D (14) A report of action by the Provost, after conference with the Military Department, the Health Officer, and the Dean of Men's Office, and the representatives of the W a r Department, limiting the registration in Military Science to 3,200 students. This report w a s received for record.

X-RAY INSURANCE IN THE COLLEGE OF MEDICINE

(15) Pursuant to the action of the Board of Trustees on April 8 (page 222), referring to the President of the University for investigation and report the matter of insuring the operators of the X-ray apparatus in the research division against liability for accidents, this matter has been investigated for the President by the Comptroller, who recommends that this insurance be authorized. The proposal is that the members of the staff of the Radiology_ Department who are concerned in the operation of X-ray equipment be provided with insurance at a cost of $30 a year each. The protection would be $5,000 in any one case and would provide for the defense of a suit, if any, and the payment of damages up to this amount in each case. I recommend approval. O n motion of M r . Barr, this recommendation w a s approved. ASSOCIATION OF AMERICAN MEDICAL COLLEGES (16) The Dean of the College of Medicine recommends that ap appropriation of £200 a year forfiveyears be made to the Association of American Medical Colleges, of which the University is a member, for the purpose of making a survey of medical education.
