P r e s i d e n t J a m e s h a d submitted to t h e members of * t h e committee in advance of t h e meeting a m a s s of m a t e r i a l relating to t h e p r e s e n t condition and probable future development of medical education a n d medical schools in t h e United States, which t h e members of t h e committee h a d carefully studied. After full discussion it w a s unanimously voted t h a t t h e committee recommend to t h e Board of Trustees of t h e University of Illinois t h a t t h e s u m of one h u n d r e d t h o u s a n d dollars ($100,000.00) per a n n u m be asked from t h e next Legislature for t h e equipment, extension a n d m a i n t e n a n c e of t h e medical school of t h e University of Illinois. Mr, W. L. Pillsbury, Secretary, Board of Trustees, University of Illinois: The Committee on t h e College of Medicine anal t h e School of Pharmacy, a t t h e meeting held in Chicago September 28, discussed w i t h t h e officials of t h e College of Physicians a n d Surgeons t h e immediate needs of t h a t institution for funds to meet obligations incurred previous to Sept. 1, 1910. After full consideration of t h e conditions, t h e committee decided to i n s t r u c t t h e comptroller to m a k e a n advance payment of $3,600.00, on account of r e n t to t h e College of Physicians and Surgeons corporation. T h i s is in accordance w i t h instructions received by t h e Medical Committee, w i t h power to act. [See page 28 of t h i s volume.] T h e committee also considered t h e request of t h e College of Physicians and Surgeons corporation t h a t t h e University assume, on i t s own account, certain liabilities which h a d been incurred by t h e college previous to Sept. 1, 1910. T h e committee voted to recommed to t h e board t h a t t h e comptroller be directed to assume, on t h e University's account, such indebtedness ( n o t exceeding $5,000.00) a s h a s been incurred by t h e College of Physicians a n d Surgeons corporation for announcements, advertising, postage, a n d supplies for t h e benefit of t h e school year beginning Sept. 1, 1910. A copy of t h e committee's order directing t h e comptroller to m a k e a n advance payment on account of r e n t is attached hereto. Respectfully submitted,
