T h e Dean of Men

T

H E Office oi the Dean ot M m is Organized for the primary purpose of aiding undergraduate men. It is a service office to advise men at all times and on any matters that may confront them, on which they may need advice a 1 help. T h e office is open throughout the day and the staff members are on call day or night in case of emergencies. T h e Assistant Dean of Men for Freshmen is a special adviser for first-year men. H< well informed in matters having to do with registration, with general questions about living q u a r t e r s and fraternities, and with the thousand and one questions which confront the new student. All new men are urged to get acquainted with him as early as possible. H e is the adviser for Phi Eta Sigma, freshman h o n o r society, and is interested in every phase of the life of the new student. T h e Assistant Dean of Men in Charge of Activities can be of considerable help to the new student w h o is interested in getting into campus activities. Dean Frederick is well informed in regard to the extra-curricular functions, and can aid the new student with suggestions about activities, how to get into them and how much time should be devoted to them. T h e Assistant Dean of Men in Charge of Employment devotes his full time to matters concerned with employment, which is more fully described under Employment and Self-Help" on page 12 of this booklet. H e is always available for new men. A l t h o u g h one man in the Office of the Dean of Men is specifically designated for work with Freshmen, this does not mean that the Dean is not available for them. His work is in counselling with s t u d e n t s ; advising them on any matters which they wish to present to him; aiding with loans; assisting with rooming house problems; helping students in any possible way. As an office established to aid students, the Office of the Dean of Men can be the beginning point for almost any matter on which a student needs help.
