APPROPRIATIONS to the University are made by the state General Assembly on a biennial (two-year) basis. The principal support comes from state tax revenues. For the July 1, 1957 to June 30, 1959, biennium, this is $91,^57,000. Also appropriated is $12,000,000 from student fees and other income, by law deposited in the state treasury. This makes the total biennial appropriation for educational and general purposes $103,^57,000. Special appropriations are $1,075,000 for agricultural extension in the counties, $120,280 for Institution for Tuberculosis Research; $25,000 for Gerentological Committee; and $5,000 for Horseradish Research. For new buildings, the Legislature appropriated $1^,275,000. All told, the University was appropriated $118,957,280 for the 1957-59 biennium. For operations of the July 1, 1958~-June 30, 1959 year, the University budgeted $77,0^3,^86. This includes approximately half of the sum appropriated by the Legislature for this purpose during the Biennium, plus money from research contracts, federal projects, and auxiliary enterprises such as residence halls. Handling of funds is under Herbert 0. Farber, vice president and comptroller*
