APPOINTMENT OF ROBERT R. HUDELSON AS ACTING DEAN OF THE COLLEGE OF A G R I C U L T U R E , ACTING DIRECTOR OF THE AGRIC U L T U R A L EXPERIMENT STATION, AND ACTING DIRECTOR O F THE EXTENSION SERVICE IN AGRICULTURE AND HOME ECONOMICS (24) Dean H . P. Rusk of the College of Agriculture will retire September I, 1952, after forty-two years of distinguished service. From 1921 to 1939 he served as Head of the Department of Animal Husbandry (now Animal Science) and since 1939, as Dean of the College of Agriculture, Director of the Agricultural Experiment Station, and Director of the Extension Service in Agriculture and Home Economics. Pending the appointment of a permanent successor, I recommend the appointment of Professor Robert R. Hudelson of the Department of Agricultural Economics and Associate Dean of the College of Agriculture to the position of Acting Dean of the College of Agriculture, Acting Director of the Agricultural Experiment Station, and Acting Director of the Extension Service in Agriculture and Home Economics, for one year from September I, 1952, at a salary of $15,000 a year, on a Y basis, of which $3,000 will be for services as Acting Dean and Director. Professor Hudelson will also hold his professorship in agricultural economics on indefinite tenure. It will be recalled that Dean Hudelson served as Acting Dean of the College of Commerce and Business Administration, January I, 1951, to February I, 1952, a service he performed with distinction and in addition to his other duties. H e has agreed to serve as Acting Dean of the College of Agriculture if called upon to do so. Dean Hudelson was born in Chambersburg, Illinois, in 1886. H e received his bachelor's and doctor's degrees at the University of Illinois, and his master's degree at the University of Missouri. H e has been a member of the faculty of the University of Illinois for twenty-seven years. H e served on the faculty of the University of Missouri for a period of eight years, interrupted by military service in World W a r I. From 1920 to 1925 Dean Hudelson was in farm management work. At the University of Illinois he has served as Assistant Professor of Farm Organization and Management, Associate Professor and Associate Chief in the Department of Farm Organization and Management (now Agricultural Economics), as Professor of Agricultural Economics, as Assistant Dean and Superintendent of Agricultural Extension work, and as Associate Dean of the College of Agriculture.

On motion of Mr. Nickell, this appointment was approved.

ADMINISTRATION OF ROBERT ALLERTON PARK (25) Effective July 1, 1952, the overall administration of Robert Allerton Park and Allerton House has been transferred from the Division of Communications to the Division of University Extension under the general supervision of Dean Robert B. Browne. Operation and maintenance of Robert Allerton Park grounds and the 4-H Club grounds will be under the supervision of the Dean of the College of Agriculture. T h e operation and maintenance of Allerton House and the other houses in the Park, together with the programs carried on therein (excluding the 4-H Memorial Camp), will be under the supervision of a Director. The Director will report to the Dean of the Division of University Extension. This directorship is presently unfilled. It is possible that a candidate for this position can be recommended for appointment prior to the September meeting of the Board, and I, therefore, request that the Executive Committee of the Board be authorized to act for the Board on such an appointment.

On motion of Mr. Grange, authority was granted as recommended.

At this point President Stoddard presented Dean Robert B. Browne of the Division of University Extension who spoke briefly about the programs carried on in Allerton House and about the activities in Robert Allerton Park.
